We have frequent interaction with an Advisory Board to guide our company development. Each of these board members brings practical, real-world experience to Tailwind. Our Advisory Board members include:
Andrew D. Clarke - Vice President of Americas Marketing, Cognos
As Vice President of Americas Marketing, Drew Clarke drives the strategy of the North American Field Marketing Organization and oversees the marketing systems, processes, and operations at Cognos. Since joining the company, Drew has transformed and invigorated the department through the use of Cognos’ performance management solutions to dramatically improve both demand generation and revenue creation.
Prior to joining Cognos, Drew served as VP of Global Marketing Operations at Parametric Technology Corp and led the Americas Marketing Organization at Siebel Systems. He was instrumental in building the organization recognized by IDC for the 2004 Best Practice Award for Sales and Marketing Alignment.
Before joining the technology industry, Drew served in the United States Army in various positions including Scout Platoon Leader, Cavalry Troop Executive Officer and Squadron Personnel Officer (S-1) with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment.
Additionally, he was appointed by Governor Romney to serve on the Advisory Board for the Emerging Technology Fund for the Massachusetts Development Agency.
He has a B.S. from the United States Military Academy and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Jim Gildea – Founder, Aegis Associates
Aegis Associates is a systems integration firm headquartered in Boston. Aegis provides network design and support, systems engineering services, network security, and complete technology support services for growing businesses. Aegis partners with industry leading firms such as Cisco, Microsoft, Citrix, HP, and many others to deliver best of breed solutions. Founded in 1989, Aegis has 60 employees and has been profitable since its inception. Aegis is an employee-owned company through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). Jim graduated from Dartmouth College in 1983 with a dual major in History and Economics modified with Computer Science.
David R. James - Managing Partner, Swift River Investments
Dave James is the managing partner of Swift River Investments, a family managed and funded private equity firm based in Bolton, Massachusetts. Swift River invests in partnerships with management teams in high growth, middle market companies.
Prior to Swift River Investments, Dave served in senior operating and finance roles at large and medium-sized companies, and also as an executive in smaller, very high growth firms. In the 1980s and early 1990s, he worked at Digital Equipment Corporation in senior corporate and operating finance roles. Dave then served as Vice President of Finance for Marcam Corporation, a public provider of ERP software.
From 1997 to 2003, Dave was Chief Financial Officer and then Executive Vice President of Corporate Development for IONA Technologies, a public infrastructure software vendor. Before founding Swift River with his brothers, Dave worked with several private companies, where he focused on financing and managing growth.
Dave is a Director of Tailwind Strategies, Davis Standard and other Swift River Investments portfolio companies, as well as the Federation of Fly Fishers and the Trout and Salmon Foundation. He also is an Advisory Director of Simms Fishing Products.
Dave is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, and has an MBA from the Colgate Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia.
Robert J. Potter - CEO Expressor Software
Bob Potter has spent 27 years in leadership roles in the enterprise software industry at organizations ranging from venture backed start-ups to large public companies. He is currently CEO of Expressor Software, a leading data integration software company. Formerly as CEO of Kalido, Bob took this data warehousing and master data management software company from $5M to $20M in two and a half years. As EVP of software integration company IONA, he took the company to $181M in sales and a $2B market cap over a multi-year period. In his role as SVP of Worldwide Operations at Object Design, the leading object database company, Bob was critical in taking the company public in 1995. Object Design was the fastest growing company on the Inc 500 in 1994. Bob has a BS, Marketing from Providence College and an MBA, International Marketing from the University of Rhode Island. He serves on the boards of Tailwind Strategies, Hamilton Thorne Biosciences, Expressor Software, and Active Endpoints.
Stephen Smith - Vice President, Optas Division of Dendrite International
Prior to its acquisition by Dendrite, Steve was Founder and President and CEO of Optas Inc., a provider of privacy-safe online marketing systems to the pharmaceutical industry. At Optas, Steve pioneered the "Bubble Marketing" methodology, which solves the privacy problems that have plagued internet marketers. Steve has also served as Director at the Dunn and Bradstreet Corporation and at Thinking Machines Corporation, where he was responsible for the creation of Customer Relationship Management Systems for the pharmaceutical, telecommunications and financial services industries. Steve received a B.S. from MIT and an M.S. from Harvard University. His book “Data Warehousing, Data Mining and OLAP” from McGraw Hill is recognized as the leading source for business understanding of these technologies. His most recent book: “Building Data Mining Applications for CRM” is a current bestseller for CRM titles.
